Postponed until September 2021

The most important event of the tourism sector in Mexico has been postponed once again, due to the uncertainty that still prevails at the national level, caused a growth in Covid-19 infections , this was announced by Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism (Sectur) and Mauricio Vila Dosal, governor of Yucatán.

The Tourism Tianguis was scheduled to be held in person in March of next year, however “after analyzing the development of the current situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and taking into account the responsibility that governments have to ensure health of all those involved ”, the agency together with the state government decided that said event would take place from September 26 to 29, 2021.

According to the Sectur , postponing it will allow mobility to normalize and will help participants to be in the best conditions to conduct business in a face-to-face format, because it preserves the health of the attendees, both national and foreign, as well as the local population, is imposed as a priority objective.

They also pointed out that the dates were selected after analyzing the calendar of international fairs , which will allow for greater attendance, since the main tourist fairs in the world, corresponding to the first half of 2021 have been postponed, as is the case de Fitur, in Madrid, which will now be held in May; or they have changed their way of operating, like the ITB in Berlin, which will take place, but in digital format.

"We are sure that this change will benefit the Mexican tourism industry , thanks to the fact that we will have the necessary conditions to have a successful face-to-face Tourist Tianguis in Mérida ."

For its part, the government of Yucatan , through the Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur), commented that they will continue to work in a coordinated way with Sectur and with the business sector so that the edition in 2021 is the watershed for the realization of the Tourism Tianguis in Mexico.
